Reaching out to street children in Moscow

According to the International Labour Office, 42% of street children of Moscow survive by begging and 28% by prostitution... They often fall prey to criminal organizations and are regularly accused of serious offences. The great majority are themselves also victims of acts of violence.

"Qu'est ce que signifie "apprivoiser"?....
C'est une chose trop oubliée, dit le renard. Ca signifie "créer des liens".

Reaching out and sheltering
A mobile team (composed of a doctor, a child psychologist or a social worker and a “socially minded” driver) carries out night rounds in the streets of Moscow and brings appropriate emergency assistance to the children they encounter.
samusocialMoskva plan to start with a pilot phase in the North East district of Moscow, on of the most densely populated quarter - more than 1,5 million inhabitants. Statistics show that from 2000 to 2004 the most significant increase in the number of families and children at risk in the City was observed in this area ( due mostly to increases in poverty, single-parent families, alcohol consumption, drugs...). Many of the chosen partners to whom the children may be referred are also located in that district. The local political and municipal authorities too have shown great interest in the project.

Basic needs are usually satisfied with difficulty in the street.

Street children use to gather in order to face better street dangers.

Networking and promoting a professional approach

samusocialMoskva aims at developing a network of institutional and nongovernmental partners through the exchange of know-how and the continuous training of its team members, its partners and the decision makers on the issue of homeless children:
  • to offer these children a multifaceted assistance,

  • to improve collaboration and coordination between the different parties,

  • to develop techniques of evaluation and analysis in order to better target the action on the field.

Knowing and understanding better the target group

samusociallMoskva focuses on data collection and analysis in order to better understand the target group and define its needs and so :
  • work more effectively,

  • better inform and increase public awareness of the subject,

  • facilitate a more effective lobbying for eventual policy changes based on facts and statistics.
