An emergency centre for social action for the homeless of Brussels

The situation in Brussels is quite similar to the one in Paris. This European capital attracts a great number of people each year and, hence, has the same categories of marginal populations as in Paris, concentrating several complex problems: homelessness, broken families, immigrants and people suffering from psychiatric disorders.

The toll free telephone number
The homeless can reach a toll-free number 24/7. This number can also be used by anyone (people or institutions) who wish to report a homeless person. This service makes it possible to provide a permanent answer and to regulate in real time the availability of the services (accommodation, orientation...). Moreover, CASU fills out a form for each person with which it is in contact in order to follow up on him and to offer him the most suitable possible assistance.

Each evening, the CASU of Bruxelles provides assistance to those who do not ask anymore for anything.

Multidisciplinary mobile teams

Every day, either in the evening or at dawn, a multidisciplinary mobile team goes towards people in the street. This team is composed of a chauffeur, a nurse and a social worker. It helps to establish contact with people who are the most in danger in the streets, to make a first diagnostic, to try build a lasting bond and to try find with them suitable solutions in the longer run.

The emergency shelter

A night shelter with around fifty beds can immediately accommodate the people directed by the telephone service. This is where first psychological and social assistance is carried out.
